Our fur babies are very precious to us. The last thing we would want is to allow nasty parasites to be feeding off their blood and potentially making them very sick. Yet inadvertently these unwanted stowaways do often make their way into our homes & are notoriously hard to get rid of. Besides causing itchiness and nasty bites, ticks and fleas can cause a range of illnesses. These include serious ones like tick fever, Lyme’s disease and anaplasmosis.
In our desperation to get rid of them, we end up using harsh chemical solutions like conventional pills or applications. These could end up being toxic to both our pets and our health.Â
Fortunately, there are ways to ensure your pets do not have to continue hosting the worst house guests ever. Read on to learn the natural techniques that are both safe and effective to get rid of ticks and fleas.
Prevention is better than cure (especially when it comes to nasty pest bites);
Once they have made themselves cosy in your pet’s fur, these pests waste no time in laying eggs and multiplying further. Hence regular checks of your pet’s fur and skin is a must. Especially when they return from a walk, vet visit, dog park or any other place where the chances of infestation are high. It is best to avoid overgrown grass patches especially if stray cats and dogs are found there. Using an effective pest repellent when your pet must go to these places would also be very helpful. The Maw & Paw repellent is infused with natural ingredients like Cedar-wood, Neem, Eucalyptus and thyme which don’t just repel ticks and fleas. It also masks the smell of your pet from these bloodsuckers which makes it hard for the pests to hone in on them as hosts.Â
Know your foe;Â
Both ticks and fleas are nasty parasites we would prefer to avoid. However, their modi operandi are quite distinct.
Ticks are sneaky creatures who love such hidden spots where they can securely attach themselves and gorge away. Hence when you scan your pet’s body for ticks don’t forget to look in their ears, between their toes, near the groin and under the tail as well. If your pet has thick, dark fur you will need to run your fingers through their fur and watch out for any small bumps. If you find a tick, do not pull it out with your fingers or tweezer as it may break the head of the tick and leave behind infectious material. If you find your dog itching a particular spot and notice tick or fleas or mites, do a spot treatment using an effective topical spray like the Maw & Paw- Tick & Flea Repellent spray. Spray directly onto the spot where the dog was itching/scratching.
Ticks are serial offenders and disposing of them properly can be tricky. Never crush them with your bare fingers as this can transmit diseases. You could use a thick wad of paper towel to squash it, then flush it in the loo or submerge it in alcohol. In case you suspect that your pet or a family member is showing symptoms of a tick-transmitted illness you could tape it tightly and preserve it in case your vet needs to do some tests.Â
Fleas are extremely hard to spot. They move with such speed that it’s even harder to catch hold of them. Spray your pet thoroughly with the Maw & Paw-Repellent Spray to stun/ kill most of the fleas. Then use a flea comb to completely eradicate them. You can keep a bowl of warm water handy to dunk the flea comb to get rid of eggs, larvae and dead fleas.Â
Another way to detect flea infestation is to look for tiny black specks of flea poop on your pet’s underbelly. You can use a damp paper towel to wipe it off. If the moisture turns the specks reddish brown then you know it is flea poop with undigested blood.Â
Rinse, repel, repeat;Â
If your pet has got fleas or ticks then a good scrub down with an effective repellent shampoo can do wonders. The Maw & Paw Tick & Flea Repellent Shampoo is infused with essential oils and ingredients like Neem, Camphor and Cedarwood which are proven to banish both ticks and fleas without harmful side effects. It’s safe for regular use and your pet will smell great as well!Â
Evict pests from your home for good;
It’s important to remember that the adult fleas you find on your pet form a small part of the actual flea population that is infesting your home.
It is very important to eliminate fleas at different stages of their life cycle. These eggs and larvae could be hidden in the pet bedding, furniture and even your bed. It’s very important to wash the pet bedding and blankets along with treating the pet. Also, treat the furniture and other spots that your pet frequents with a safe yet effective repellent spray. The Maw & Paw repellent spray is safe not just for your pet but also for your family. The natural ingredients used help to make every corner of your home not just safe but snuggly as well.
Avoid being unpleasantly surprised by infestations;
Make sure you do regular checks of both your pet and home to avoid re-infestation of ticks and fleas. Regular screening and spraying of repellent spray in parts of your home that could be prone to infestation will go a long way. Use natural sprays like Maw & Paw that are safe enough to use regularly.Â
A good hygiene routine is an investment that will give rich dividends when it comes to your pet and family’s wellness.
